My Future...please...

"Mommy, you look like a GaWAMMY!"
"Really Natalie?"
"(giggle giggle)You look like a GaWAMMY!"
Ha ha...urgh! No matter how blessed a hoary head is, I just don't want to be that right now...yet...not for a while. I'm just not ready. Funny thing is (not so funny to me), apparently I look the part even though I don't belong in that group.
After Natalie was born, I dropped her off at the entrance to the grocery store with my little sister, who was 24 at the time. By the time I parked and walked in, Mr. Grocery-store Greeter was cooing all over.
"So you must be grandma!"
Not exactly what a newly post-partum momma needs to hear. My eyes immediately connected with my sis, as this was the SECOND time within a few days that this mistake was made. Fighting back the tears, I headed to the produce section as fast as I could, listening, but not believing Andrea's explanation. Bless her heart, she tried to encourage me, but to no avail.
Age-wise, it could have been true. I could be Andrea's mother, and Natalie could be Andrea's daughter, making me grandma.
No thanks. Not yet. I'm loving being the momma, and I just don't want this time to pass.
Now, on the bright side, I'd love to look like Tasha Tudor when I'm a grandma. Isn't she the image of peace and grandmotherly-ness? Already my children are preparing me, (okay, requiring of me) to be soft and squishy, wear dresses and aprons, put a bun in my hair, and have cookies baking for the grandkiddos. NO NYLON SWEATPANTS, PLEASE!
In fact, Caleb just pointed to the picture of Ms Tudor and said, "That's what I want you to look like!" (How cute is that...)
I think I can do just about all they are asking...

For now I am taking care of any grays that show up...I don't want to look like grannie quite yet, tho in time the upkeep might just be too labor intensive! If I don't have at least a bit of make-up on, I scare even myself!!

Oh I can feel your pain :-)Kind of like being asked if you're expecting when you just had a baby :-0 Thanks for the laugh~

Since I am a Grandmama (g-baby due in March) I can honestly say I love it!! I cannot wait to hold our oldest son's first dear one.

Of course I have never minded getting older, ever. Now being called OLD, I'm not sure I like that! Not even a little bit.

But I'll be 41 one this Sunday and I love it~

Are you all feeling better? Worse? More sickos?

Seems 3 of us have it and I have been on the couch ~all~ day. Thank the Lord for older, helpful, HEALTHY children :-)

Blessings sweet friend~ Cinnamon

I met Tasha Tudor once and her spirit radiated through her pores. I want to look like that kind of Grammy too. She told me she loved my name and her favorite goat shared my name too. Too cute.

NO WAY! I'm a HUGE Tasha Tudor fan! I even named my ipod TASHA! HA HA HA! She is such a beautiful woman and I always said I'd love to do all the things she does. (I always say I'm going to retire to those activities - milking Nubian does, gardening, making soap and candles, and sharing all the fruits of my labors with my children and their children).

I collect her books and always wanted a faded blue pantry just like hers! :)

Just another thing we have in common.

Yes, we'll go Tasha style when we're grandma's! (BUT NOT until we ARE grandma's! ha! (but NOT funny!)) Have you ever read my post about being called Harrison's grandma? I know Josh read it. Not a fun day! Ugh!

Love ya Kathy.

I understand. I really wanted another child but My brian didn't. My oldest is 24 and just blessed me with My Boston. I really was not ready to be Grammy. However the saying "When a baby is born so is a Grandma" is really true. I am so in love with Boston ~Grammy just fits. For no one else but Boston.

Hello!
This is Lydia. I haven't commented in a while, but your very sweet post drew me in. Kelsey actually told me about it first and I had to see it and comment. First of all, I CANNOT(!!!!) believe ANYONE would think you area "gwanny"!!!:) You can check with Kelsey on this, but I have always made comments to her, as we read together, how YOUNG you look!! Please, I mean it!!! I was dumbfounded to hear that someone could even think you are a grandma!! It could just be that when you are with your sister, because she is younger, that they assume one of you must be the grandmother?? I don't know, but I still can't believe it! I have even mixed you up with your daughter at times! No kidding! I have to ask Kelsey if a picture I see is you or Jenna. You look so much alike and you look soooo youthful to me. Do enjoy this time. I know what you mean when you say you aren't yet ready for the grandma stage. Let me tell you something: I am 51 years old. I could be a grandma now!! Thankfully I am not, YET. I will be 65 when my youngest daughter is 18 years old!!! UGGHH!! That is scary to me. I got a late start and God was so gracious to give us eight wonderful gifts even so! BUT, I will be a grandma and a mom at the same time for quite a while!! Maybe there is term for that like "overlap syndrome"!!:)
Anyway, yes, enjoy motherhood and all it's many joys. When you are at the age to be a grandmother, God will supply all you need to be that soft and beautiful woman! You are beautiful now and doing a fabulous job!! Keep it up sister!
I too, would love to look like Tasha Tudo!. May God grant us His mercy and grace to be so!
In the safe and secure Grip of our Awesome God,
Lydia

Double embarassment when I went to the store with my oldest and youngest. They thought my son was the daddy, my little guy was his baby and I was the grammy. I was red faced and so was my son. Now he really does have a baby and I really am a grammy. (and I really am only graying around the edges....with a 1st grader at my side!) Enjoy!

I remember the first time a young worker at a McDonalds called me "ma'am." I was shocked because I was only about 24. I also remember when I attended my 20-year class reunion. I had a 1-year-old at home and some of my classmates were already grandparents! I know I *could* be a grandma by now, but because my kids are between 16 and 11, it is just a distant concept for me still. So weird to think that people my age are already in the empty nest stage with grand babies while I'm trying to get a handle on the teen stage. Feeling the age thing, too, Liz in CA

Okay, just to make this straight, I don't think you look at all old enough to be a grandmother. I was just thinking the other day how young you look! :)

I would love to be a Tasha Tudor Grandma. In fact our children tell me I will just that sort of Grand ma. In a way I can't wait, but I am not ready yet to give up the hope of having more little ones of my own.
Mind you I think I would feel the same way you did if it happened to me too.
