Bribery on the Farm...

Finally, we are on the mend! It's been over a week of "the sick-a-ness" on the farm, and it has left us wiped out! One of the challenges I struggle with, is meeting the needs of the children to the point where sometimes that is all that gets accomplished. This is the part of mothering that requires sacrifice, perspective, and God-given strength. Doesn't it seem that in the midst of illness, we move into "survival mode"? That's what I've been in!! Is there any way to get MORE ARMS?

Little Running Squash wants me all the time. She's happiest in my arms, nursing, and sleeping beside me. I try to "wear" her in the Ergo, which is helpful, and I'm re-thinking other parenting approaches...but more on that later.

Have you ever bribed your children? Surely others have stooped so low...When I was using this amazing reward system I reaped benefits I now get to enjoy frequently. My favorite, came again today when I needed it most:

"I will never leave you from the farm!"

"Oh Natalie, I love you!"

"Well, if I do leave, I'll go with you. Maybe to get chicken food, or dog food..."

"And we can wear our aprons together..."

"If you tie my apron, mommy, I'll tie yours."

Okay. There's that strength to keep on giving, and meeting needs, and nurturing even when it feels like there is nothing left give.

Awww, how sweet. I love those littel conversations, & miss them so much. Yes, I think the Lord gives those little conversational rewards just when we need them the most. That's when, right when we think we're about to give out, He sends those sweet little conversations that are sweet confirmation that we're doing it right & we can go on from there.

Awww that was so sweet "I'll tie your apron" too cute!

I have an extra pair of hands, I can come help :-) Get some crafts going, some hot tea, cocoa w/marshmallows, games outside for the ones who are feeling better~

"Lord lift this dear sweet friend up and encourage her, bless her, give her the hands and energy she needs Lord. Thank you for a heart that loves her family. In Jesus name~ amen."

Survival mode is God's gift to mom's. When you are doing all you can, than that is all you can do. Go with the flow, and know it will be better soon!

I must tell you that there is nothing more beautiful than being surrounded by your children as they are getting better.

It is hard to be everywhere at once, but trust me, you are making them feel secure and must of all loved!

I am so glad that you are all on the mend. When one of the children get sick here at the cottage, my days become even simpler...I just dedicate myself to them getting better!

What a lovely picture of your lovely young brood :)

Blessings,

Maria

Im so happy everyone is feeling better. What a sweet post and a beautiful photograph to go along with it~ Even with three I sometimes feel as if just taking care of them doing my best to meet their needs is almost all I could get done that day. Doing my best to start dinner but Allen may come home to a messy living room with soup served in cups due to having no clean bowels. Then I think ok Catherine and you want a large family? Can you do this. One of the many reason you are such an inspiration to me. Blessings Catherine

oh, i miss those days! we only have five children,
which are all grown up now. :( we homeschooled
too, and i will tell you that they all LOVE that they
were homeschooled. our oldest, who is in law school
now, said that i was his favorite teacher....my favorite
Christmas gift!

blessings on your sweet family and come make some
wise comments on my blog for young mommies. don't be disappointed that it is not as helpful as i
wish, but i feel like i am supposed to be 'salting'
young women bit by bit, a tiny nugget at a time.

love your blog and will be back soon!
