One little sentence can throw this momma off these days...
"...instill in them a love of learning..."
I wonder (when I'm hearing a bit of complaining about studying) if WE love to learn...
For years I've been preaching that "Life is learning"...
So here's a test...Look at this mess! Oops...I immediately catch myself (ok, after the initial "What are you doing???") and grab the camera. The littles were gardening and "selling herbs"...nothing a bit of sweeping won't fix.
*sigh* I don't know how we're doing, and when I read of "veteran" home schoolers who have been living this life for eight years (!), I wonder why I still feel like a new home educator after seventeen years(!). Honestly, I thought I'd have it all together by now, but if I did, I suppose I'd take whatever credit that might be had. So here's to butterflies... and snakes... and baseball... and herbs.
What do you do to encourage/instill that love of learning?

All of life can be an object lesson I suppose. I tried to look at it that way when my kids were little. And then my grandkids too.
I never had the privilege of home teaching. I would have if I had heard of it then. But some of my grandkids have been blessed to be home taught.
I am sure there are moments when frustration takes over...but oh the blessings!
Your kids are truly blessed.
Love, Linda
Oh... I LOVE it.. : )I also LOVE being able to come visit with you again.... : ) The first picture is so SIMPLY SWEET...and the porch picture is what mine often looks like when the children tend to their gardens...And yes..it is amazing how they see it through their little eyes... Perfect and Ordered...Only if I could see it the same way...My old grown up eyes just simply see a MESS.. : ) to be young again... : )
What kind of snake are they looking at..???
May your day be blessed..

We aren't really unschoolers- and I am ready to through the tv we use for dvds- but I have to tear the kids away from books...so I know I am doing something right
Hello there Kathy! I can soooo understand what you are saying! I sure do love your thoughtful and real posts! You are the genuine deal and I think you are doing an amazing job! Keep it up sister!
Lots of love and hugs to the farm from the Hoppman! As the saying goes: Keep on keeping on! God's grace IS sufficient for all of our needs. We do what we can and leave the results to Him!

No one will ever have it altogether...if they say they do, chance are they're lying LOL.
From reading your blog, you sound like a wonderful mom and your children love you...the rest, throw it out the window....you are raising amazing children.
Blessings.
