This is a great tutorial, and I was pleasantly surprised at how simple it is to make the almond milk. Not only is this a great source of protein and is casein-free, this process is also soaked overnight!
My only obstacle: those family members who remain resistant. To me, it tasted a bit like vanilla ice-cream (can't go wrong there, can I?), but even to my littlest, she promptly produced the most genuine "dry heaves" a 15 month old can muster up. How is that? It is as confusing to me as that moment when a baby reaches for a green m&m (having never seen or tasted it before) yet unequivocally rejects a green pea...
Which brings me to the next green food item...do you know what this is?
Jenna wrongly said these were like lima beans (which I shall never induce my children to such punishment), and Josh , though incorrect, gets the award for identifying it as only a homeschooler-who-loves-science, would. His answer? Whale ovum.
REALLY???
The correct answer: Edamame. We boiled it in the pod, then gave the task of shelling them to Natalie, who diligently podded them all. Quietly, I might add, as she was given to great concentration. Sea salt was sprinkled on them in the bowl, and served warm at the table.

We use almonds for milk in our smoothies. I grind up 2 handfuls of raw almonds in my Vita-mix with about 2 cups of water. Then add in 3-4 frozen bananas. Yummy!
I wouldn't eat lima beans either yuck!! But of course I said that about spinach only a year or so ago. Now I throw it in my green drinks and enjoy every bit of it :-)

Sometimes, it is hard to introduce foods that are good for you but are not the norm.
In my quest, to eat healthy at this point in my life, I have had to introduce some very different recipes to the family.
I must say, it has taken awhile. But now they are beginning to get used to eating natural, healthy, homemade foods.
I applaud your commitment to eat and be healthy this new year :)

We have tried homemade Alomond Milk as well, but some of us have not yet gotten used to the taste... :) We've gotten it from the store as well, but from there, it is rather tasteless. Almonds are great for you though! What kind of sweetener to you put in the Almond milk? Do you use honey as the recipe show's? We use honey or sometimes we'll use stevia.I also know of some people who use simply dates.
Just curious what you use!
God Bless,
Kelsey
I have come to visit from Anna's beautiful blog. I was intrigued by your blog name. I think I will enjoy visiting here. It is a lovely place.
Ooh, I love Edamames. Haven't had any for a while. I need to pick some up. I'd be interested in trying that almond milk.
This is Kelsey's mom again:
I am so glad to hear that there are others meeting with resistance at efforts to be more healthy! Forgive me, I am not glad for you, just glad to hear I am not alone in my quest. We need to pray for our children to desire to make this change their own, so they can go on to teach their families some day!:) I keep telling my cjildren how eating in a more healthful way will give them energy and strength to serve God. I try not to put too much emphaisis on it, yet I really believe it is so important, and the answer to so much of what ails Americans in general today.
That said, I am going to try your recipe as it is a little different from mine. Have you found a way that works, to make bread or pancakes with the pulp? I would be very interested if you have!:)
Thank you again dear Mrs Regan for your blog. I find much comfort, encouragement and joy from reading it. I keep thinking, I wish I lived closer to someone like yourself who seems to have so much in common. You proably hear that a lot. Thank you for your wonderful post and keep up the great work you are doing!
God Bless you!

Our family loves almond milk! That's all I drink anymore. Even my father and 16 year old brother prefer it over cow or goat milk, believe it or not! We make "cookies" out of the pulp by putting them in our dehydrator.
We can't ever get enough of Edamames either (though I just call 'em soybeans). When I grow them in the summertime we have them almost every night. Delicious! Especially with Sea Salt like you said. Yum!
I have made almond milk, and while my kiddos weren't too thrilled about it, I enjoyed it. I can get it ready-made at the store, but it has too much sugar in it for me to have regularly.
We love lima beans in this house! Yum! Also edamame while waiting for our sushi to be prepared. That's urban California living for you. Your farm, however, sounds so wonderful.
Thanks for opening your home for us to enjoy!
