Abiding Joyfully

"He maketh the barren woman...

...abide in the house...

...as a joyful mother of children.

Praise the Lord!"

~Psalm 113:9

This psalm has literally been true and fulfilled in my life! When I was newly married and working outside the home, my heart longed for the blessing to be at home raising children. And I thought more would be good! Over the years, the babies were being born to others, but not to me. In my grief, the Lord answered with this psalm, and I circled the reference in my Bible...7-14-92. On 10-17-93, the Lord saw fit to deliver safely to my husband and I not one, but TWO beautiful babies!!

Since then, two babies became eight, and I am amazed that I have a home full of children. Daily the Lord shows me the need and opportunity to be joyful and enjoy the gifts He alone has given to me. And the thankfulness I have for my husband and his willingness to allow me to fulfill the Scripture of being a wife and mother at home can never be fully expressed.

I am blessed beyond measure.

I always wanted 5 children. 1yr & 9 days after our 1st anniversary we were blessed w/the beginning of the quiver-full. On 1/11/86, our 1st precious daughter died of SIDS @ 3 months old. After that we had 2 miscarriages. I began to fear that the only child of ours that we would ever hold in our arms was the one buried in the country cemetary. I was 'given' this verse by a dear friend & I clung to it. I'm blessed to say that the Lord gave us 2 more sweet daughters (now 21 & 18) who we homeschooled K-12. We just graduated our 'baby' in June.

Did you notice that God DID give me those 5 children? 3 are w/Him & 2 are now w/us; we'll have all 5 for eternity in Heaven!

How blessed I am to have been able to stay home - thru thick & thin - to raise & righteously educate our precious daughters.

I always thought I would love to have lots of children. I have two from a previous relationship while I wasn't walking right with the Lord. Since returning to a right relationship with God, I have married a godly man who too wants as many children as the Lord blesses us with, but much to our disappointment, it has been two years since we married and we are still waiting on the Lord's blessing. I never entertained the thought that the Lord might not bless us with children at all, but in recent months that has become a thought that goes through my mind often. Enjoy your armsful of children for those of us who have few or none!! :) They are such a blessing.

Thank you for your kind comments!
Kim, I am so sorry for your loss. I am so thankful you are trusting in the Lord to one day hold your precious babies in eternity...what else could ease the pain?
Clara, may God bless you and your husband richly with peace in walking uprightly, and many godly children. Do keep me posted.
Blessings to you all~

Children really are a blessing. Joining with you in your thankfulness of the gifts that God has given.

And yes, what a blessing to be able to be a stay at home wife and mother.

Enjoy your children, for as you know they grow up fast.

What a beautiful house to raise a family in. Maybe some day it will be full of the pitter patter of your grandchildren's little feet!

Children are indeed a blessing - your first little ones have the same birthday as my first son - 10-17! Of course my little guy is only 3.

David and I lost our first baby due to miscarriage a few months after we got married, but the Lord has blessed us with 3 darling sons since then and I do hope that He will bless us with more as the years pass. I cannot imagine a greater fulfillment or a greater joy as a wife and mother than to have as many blessings as the Lord sees fit to give to us.

Thank you for this post, I especially needed it today as for the last 2 days I had been hoping... Only to be crushed again this morning! In just 22 days my wondeful nubby and I will be celebrating our third wedding Anniversary. I had hoped to have a child with another on the way by this time. The Lord knows what is best!

That verse has been precious to me too. My first child was born in December 1993. She came to us through the selfless love a birthmom. We now have 5 children through the blessing of adoption. I am forever thankful!
